We’re happy to help! Just collect the new child’s legal name and date of birth and clarify and ask if they would like to make any changes to their current distribution plan or if they would like to add this child to the current distribution plan. If the client has a valid DP, collect the information, and update the Attorney. It is likely that no changes need to be made to the estate plan. However, depending on the client’s wishes, maybe an update is required. If an update to the estate plan is required, the Attorney and Drafter and Case Manager will determine next steps. It is likely that the client can be scheduled for a re-signing in about two weeks. If the client doesn’t have an active DP and is concerned about cost, you can explain that probably their trust has general language for descendants, so even if the new child/grandchild isn’t expressly named in the documents they will still be included in distribution and then confirm this with the attorney after the call.
