I have seen that some properties are listed on the Fairfax county assessment databases as Name Withheld By Request. How do I do that?

In Fairfax County Department of Tax Administration, you can request that your name be hidden from the online real estate assessment database and replaced with “Name Withheld by Request.” (Fairfax County)

This does not remove your ownership from the official land records — deeds and courthouse records remain public — but it does prevent your name from appearing in the public iCare property search website. Fairfax County specifically states that the information is still available to people who contact or visit the county offices. (Fairfax County)

You can request it by submitting the county’s “Owner Name Withholding Form” through the Department of Tax Administration. The county references the process here:

You can also contact them directly:

After approval, the online record will typically display “NAME WITHHELD BY REQUEST” instead of the owner’s name. (icare.fairfaxcounty.gov)
