Rebecca A. L. Megel
Attorney
Born to what her mother describes as “mature” parents, and a mother to a young child of her own, Rebecca is the definition of what it means to be a member of the “Sandwich Generation” – one who is responsible for caring both for young children and aging parents. It is through this lens that Rebecca filtered the options for putting her law license to work. After working for a nonprofit, the Department of Justice, and a nationwide bankruptcy firm, she embraced estate law and found that by counseling people through the planning and administration process she could have a direct and positive effect on the lives of people and families just like hers.
Rebecca has witnessed friends in their 30s and 40s having to re-imagine their lives after the unexpected loss of a spouse, and watched others shepherd their families to a new normal following the loss of a parent. In both circumstances, she has seen firsthand how an extended probate can compound grief and frustration, while on the other hand, comfort and peace of mind was available to those who were able to put their full energy towards healing – with the knowledge that their lost family members’ wishes were being honored. This is the reason Rebecca approaches every matter with the goal of minimizing the mental and emotional burdens shouldered by Executors and Administrators, and with the desire to help clients make sense of the often complicated and sometimes overwhelming probate process.
